Last year, as part of a grass roots movement to remind the public of the existence (and importance) of independent bookstores over 90 indie bookstores in more than 80 different zip codes came together for the first ever California Bookstore Day. The event was such an immense hit, that this year the event has gone National. On Saturday May 2nd (which is also coincidentally Free Comic book Day, yay) 400 stores will be joining in the festivities across the nation for the first ever Independent Bookstore Day.
As luck would have it 17 of those stores are right here in the Seattle area, so I know where I will be this Saturday!
To find a store near you, a list of participating stores can be found on the Independent Bookstore Day web site (http://indiemap.bookweb.org). You can either scroll through the list, or enter your zip code for more customized information.
All stores participating will be celebrating in their own unique and independent way so you will need to check with individual stores to discover what fun filled activities they have planned.
Sounds like a perfect day! Happy trails.
